Mayor John Tory, alongside the Nelson Mandela Legacy Committee, today officially recognized that University Avenue, which extends from Front Street to College Street, has been named Nelson Mandela Boulevard.

Torontonians encouraged to help protect migrating birds

Tens of millions of birds make their way over and through Toronto on their annual spring migration in April and May. It is estimated that more than a million of them end up injured or dead from collisions with windows in the Toronto area.

Giuliana Carbone appointed Toronto Deputy City Manager

At its meeting today, Toronto City Council appointed Giuliana Carbone as Deputy City Manager, effective June 1. Toronto's newest Deputy City Manager will lead multiple social, economic and community City services including Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Children's Services, Economic Development and Culture, and Toronto Paramedic Services. The Deputy City Manager also assists the City Manager in administrative governance and ensures that City staff work to deliver effective programs and services, while achieving Council's priorities.

Survey for public input on 10-year plan for Toronto cycling network

Toronto residents and businesses are being asked to complete a survey to help the City's Transportation Services division create a plan for expanding and improving Toronto's 856-kilometre cycling network over the next 10 years.

Enterprise Toronto helps businesses with cloud computing

Today, Enterprise Toronto helped more than 200 small- and medium-sized businesses understand how cloud applications can help them grow their businesses. An event on the subject held at the North York Civic Centre offered a series of presentations, a panel discussion and breakout sessions. Cloud computing involves using the Internet to store and manage data rather than using a local server or personal computer for that purpose.
