The majority of Toronto's swimming beaches will open Sunday, June 1, with lifeguards on site. Two other beaches will open June 14 once lifeguards have been trained.

In response to Mayor Rob Ford's notice to the City that he is taking a leave of absence, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly and City Manager Joe Pennachetti reassured residents that the City of Toronto is well-prepared to ensure that City services and programs continue uninterrupted.

The City of Toronto has called an Extreme Cold Weather Alert to make vulnerable homeless people in Toronto aware of the dangers of staying outside too long in cold weather and to ensure they have safe and warm places to go. The alert is in effect until further notice.
