Every year, the City of Toronto's two ski and snowboard centres attract thousands of people who want to improve their skills on the hills. Centennial Park and Earl Bales ski and snowboard centres are located near public transit and have competitive lift, equipment and instruction rates, and great hours. Season's passes are available for both locations.
"The opening of the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre marks the beginning of ski season and provides residents with a great opportunity to get outside and be active this winter," said Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee. "It's amazing to have ski and snowboard facilities right here in Toronto for residents to enjoy and take advantage of the opportunity to develop new skills."
The Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre, 4169 Bathurst St., will open Thursday, January 8, weather permitting, and will operate until mid-March 2015. Features include ski and snowboard school, snowboard and downhill ski rentals, helmet rentals, snowmaking equipment, a four-passenger chairlift, a rope tow, night skiing, and a lodge with snack bar and fireplace. There is no ATM banking machine onsite. The ski centre can be reached by phone at 416-395-7931.
Regular hours of operation, weather permitting, are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Earl Bales ski and snowboard lessons will begin on Thursday, January 8 as scheduled. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday lessons will begin the week of January 12.
Centennial Ski and Snowboard Centre, 256 Centennial Park Rd., will open when conditions permit.
The use of helmets is mandatory at City of Toronto ski and snowboard facilities for participants of all ages in school board programs, other school groups and ski racing programs, as well as for race coaching staff, on-hill supervisors and ski patrol members.
