The City of Toronto is one of the winners of the Greater Toronto's Top Employers competition for 2015, as announced by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
"I am proud that the City of Toronto has received this prestigious award," said Mayor John Tory. "The City of Toronto is a great place to live and do business and is also a great place to work. It has proven once again to be an employer of choice."
Now in its 10th year, Greater Toronto's Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. This special designation recognizes the Greater Toronto employers that lead their industries and offer exceptional places to work.
"I am pleased that we are able to offer members of the Toronto Public Service an exceptional place to work," said City Manager Joe Pennachetti. "It is important that we continue to attract, retain and engage a skilled, high performing and diverse workforce to meet our current and future needs."
The City of Toronto was chosen from 3,250 applicants whose workplace operations and human resources practices were compared to other related organizations to determine which offered the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The City currently has about 33,700 active employees.
The evaluation criteria for employers were physical workplace, work atmosphere and social events, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development and community involvement.
This year's winners were announced in a special magazine in The Globe and Mail. The full list of Greater Toronto's Employers and the editors' reasons for selection is posted at
