The City of Toronto has hired a film sector development officer to help support and enhance the City's relationships with screen-based industries locally, nationally and internationally. Michele Alosinac started work with the City this week.
"We are looking forward to Michele making a positive impact with our film and entertainment industries team and with all our media industry partners," said Zaib Shaikh, the City's Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries. "She brings great experiences from the film and television world along with a keen insight into how government entities can motivate and support the many stakeholders that make up the film and TV business in this city and across the country. We have a highly skilled and hard- working team and Michele is going to be a great fit."
Alosinac is a Gemini Award nominated director, as well as a writer and producer with more than 20 years of expertise in film and entertainment portfolios, including her time at the Ontario Heritage Trust, where she was a business development and film sector officer.
Toronto is the third largest screen-based production centre in North America, with on-location filming in the city last year exceeding $1 billion for the third straight year. The City's plan, Collaborating for Competitiveness - A Strategic Plan to Accelerate Economic Growth and Job Creation in Toronto, sets targets for improving the quality of jobs in Toronto and commits to harmonizing the policies/activities of the City and its agencies to help create a more attractive climate for business and investment.
