Thousands came out yesterday to the 25th Toronto Challenge, presented by MonsterMortgage.ca, in support of Toronto's seniors. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities took part to raise money for non-profit organizations that improve the quality of life for seniors across the city.
"Over its 25 years, this event has raised over $10 million and is expected to add approximately half a million dollars more this year," said Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre), Chair of the City's Community Development and Recreation Committee. "Thank you to all who took the time to participate in this very worthy event."
"The Toronto Challenge is our most important fundraising event for residents in the City's 10 long-term care homes and for seniors in the community," said Reg Paul, General Manager, Long-Term Care Homes & Services. "Funds raised through this event help us go beyond the basics and enable us to improve the lives of residents and clients entrusted to our care."

The annual event included the MonsterMortgage.ca 5k run, the Medical Pharmacies 5k walk and the 1k fun walk. This year also included a 25th Anniversary Team Challenge – five team members each running five kilometres for the best combined time.
Funds are used by community agencies to provide home support and independent living, renovation of seniors' facilities, transportation services, wellness programs, home library services and more.
The fastest male and female runners in nine different age categories and the youngest and oldest participants in each event were honoured. Results from the event are posted on the Toronto Challenge website at
