For the first time, the City of Toronto has been named one of Canada's best diversity employers in the annual assessment of organizations called Canada's Best Diversity Employers.

 

"Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. It's important that we reflect the diversity of the people we serve. I commend our public service for receiving an award that recognizes this diversity within our workforce," said Mayor John Tory.

 

The Canada's Best Diversity Employers competition, now in its 10th year, is held by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers to recognize employers with exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs.

 

Employers are compared to determine which have the most successful diversity initiatives in areas that include employee programs for women, for members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Aboriginal peoples, and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) people. 

 

"As a leading employer, the City of Toronto is a great place to work," said City Manager Peter Wallace. "We have striven to create a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve."
