Road safety stakeholders shared their knowledge and views at a roundtable meeting today on the issue of road safety in Toronto. The meeting was hosted by Councillor Jaye Robinson (Ward 25 Don Valley West), Chair of the City's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee.
"The meeting this morning provided valuable insight into the various challenges and opportunities that we have in front of us in order to improve safety on our roads," said Councillor Robinson. "We heard loud and clear from roundtable participants that road safety is one of the most important issues facing the City of Toronto."
The meeting brought together key stakeholders and advocacy groups in an effort to help identify potential safety initiatives that can be implemented to help reduce transportation- related deaths and serious injuries on Toronto's roads.
Key issues discussed at the meeting included aggressive and distracted driving, safety for seniors and school children, and pedestrian and cyclist safety.
The input collected from this meeting will be compiled into a draft of the Road Safety Strategic Plan that will be presented to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee in the spring.
