Dufferin Street road work completed ahead of schedule

October 7, 2015

The road resurfacing and sidewalk work on Dufferin Street, from Lawrence Avenue West to Jane Osler Boulevard (just south of Highway 401), has been completed and all lanes of traffic have been reinstated four weeks earlier than anticipated.

"Residents, businesses, and commuters are thrilled to learn that much needed improvements along Dufferin, from Lawrence Ave W. to just south of the 401, have been completed four weeks ahead of schedule," said Councillor Colle (Ward 15 Eglinton-Lawrence). "Extending work hours so that the road resurfacing and side walk improvements could be done during the evening and overnight reduced disruptive day time lane closures and was a major factor in having this critical project completed weeks ahead of schedule."

The work on Dufferin Street was completed in two phases. The first phase, road resurfacing and improvements to boulevards and sidewalks between Eglinton Avenue and Lawrence Avenue, was completed prior to the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. Following the conclusion of the Games, phase two of the project resumed, from Lawrence to south of Highway 401, and was expected to be completed in early November.

Extended hours, including work during evening hours and work at intersections on a 24/7 basis, were used for this project in order to minimize disruption to the travelling public.

"This is another example of how we can reduce delays on our roadways and at the same time do the critical work to improve our transportation infrastructure," said Councillor Jaye Robinson (Ward 25 Don Valley West), Chair of the City's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee.

Some minor work remains, including traffic and transit loop cuttings, tree plantings and fixing sod as required, and will be completed by Friday, October 9 during evening hours.

This work is part of the City's comprehensive and co-ordinated strategy to rehabilitate and upgrade Toronto's roads, transit and underground infrastructure for current and future needs.
