St. Lawrence North Market's temporary location is officially open

July 11, 2015

Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) and City of Toronto staff officially opened the temporary location of the north building of the St. Lawrence Market complex this morning during a day-long community celebration. The temporary site is located at 125 The Esplanade, directly south of the main St. Lawrence Market building.

"The redevelopment of the St. Lawrence North Market is an investment that will benefit vendors, residents and visitors to our neighbourhood," said Deputy Mayor McConnell. "This revitalization will contribute to the economic development of the area and make our world-class, top-ranked Market Precinct an even better destination to enjoy."

The relocation of the north building of the St. Lawrence Market complex will allow business to continue while design and construction of the North Market building are underway. Completion is currently scheduled for the second quarter of 2017, subject to the results of further site archeological investigation and Council approval. More information about the redevelopment is available at http://www.stlawrencemarket.com.

Performances during the day, reflecting a Pan Am theme, include Sole de Cuba, Ritmo Flamenco, blues musician Jordan John, tango by Rhythm and Motion Dance Studio and reggae music from Jay Douglas. St. Lawrence Market food merchants are also participating in the outdoor celebration.
